American Buffalo Gold Coin
Based on the design from the 1913 Buffalo nickel and the Gold Buffalo is a 24 karat gold bullion coin which became available in 2006 selling for $800. The Buffalo depicted on the coin is an American Bison which some believe is a famous Bison named Black Diamond that lived in New York's Central Park in the early 1900's. The American Buffalo Gold coin is a 1 ounce gold coins produced at the West Point Mint in New York.
Another gold coin loved by many collectors it the American Eagle however since it only contained 91.67% gold, many were turning to other international coins that contained a higher percentage of gold. This need for gold bullion made it necessary to create the Gold Buffalo with 99.99% 24 karat gold.
